Salem, MA – Eleanor (Rice) Hayes, age 84, passed away October 1, 2017 at Salem Hospital. Wife of Norman G. Hayes of Salem and daughter of the late George E. and Mildred J. (Corey) Rice, Eleanor was born and raised in Salem. She was educated at North Shore School for the Deaf in Beverly. She worked for Steve's Quality Market in Salem for more than 20 years as a meat packer. Eleanor loved spending time with friends and family, and going out to eat. She also enjoyed Bingo, sewing, coloring and computer games.
Eleanor is survived by her loving husband Norman G. Hayes as well as; her sister Barbara Perrin of Rhode Island, 17 nieces and nephews, more than 30 great nieces and nephews, her Goddaughter Marjorie Fritts, her Goddaughter Joan Block, her Godson Matthew Danner and her special friend and neighbor Mary Creso of Salem. She was predeceased by her siblings Marjorie M. Delisle, Robert C. Rice and John E. Rice.
Friends and family are warmly invited to attend an hour of visitation from 10AM to 11AM on Saturday October 7, 2017 at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (corner of North St.) followed by a funeral service at 11AM, also at the Murphy Funeral Home. Interment will follow immediately after service at Greenlawn Cemetery, 57 Orne St. Salem, MA 01970. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution in Eleanor's name to the Beverly School for the Deaf, 6 Echo Ave, Beverly, MA 01915.
