Salem….
Eleanor R. (Crooker) Tracy, age 86, wife of the late Joseph H. Tracy of Salem died Monday morning in Salem Hospital.
Born in Attleboro, MA the daughter of the late Herbert L. and Gertrude (Colprit) Crooker, Mrs. Tracy was raised and educated in Beverly. Following her graduation from Beverly High School she moved to Salem where her close "girlfriends" introduced her to their brother while he was home on leave from the Army during World War II. Following his discharge they later married and began their family which Mrs. Tracy loved and cared for. Her in laws, Eloise and John Costello and Catherine Tracy became closer than friends and played a major role in the family life of the Tracy family.
Later in life as her children grew, Mrs. Tracy became a waitress for Howard Johnson's on Bridge St. in Salem as well as the hostess for the former King's Grant Restaurant in Danvers. While working she had many good friends which she stayed in touch with during her retirement.
An accomplished quilter, she was interested in the world and loved to read. One of her favorite magazines was National Geographic Travel which helped her plan her many trips in and around the United States. Over the years, Mrs. Tracy loved her cats and was also a fun loving person, enjoying dancing with her special dancing partner and dear friend Guy Gravel.
She was the loving mother of three sons, Joseph M. Tracy and his wife Nancy T. Tracy of Salem and their children Katherine T. and Joseph T. Tracy of Salem, James W. Tracy and his wife Kathleen Tracy of Danvers and their son Kevin J. Tracy of Beverly and the late Peter Tracy and his wife Dorothy M. Tracy of Salem and her four children Maureen Fisher of Salem, James Kidney of Salem, Michael Kidney of Danvers and Deborah Mikulski of Danvers.
She was predeceased by two brothers Wilbur O. Crooker and Edgar Crooker, and a sister and close friend Alice Crooker.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 P.M in the Murphy Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
