Obituary

North Andover, MA — Elaine Assiminas, 90, died peacefully on Friday, May 31st at Sutton Hill Center Nursing Home, North Andover, MA.

Elaine Assiminas was born on February 19, 1934, in Peabody, daughter of the late Emanuel and Sophia (Despinas) Assiminas. She was predeceased by her siblings: Calliope (Kay) Kokoreas, George Assiminas, Peter Assiminas, Bess Phelan and Charles March.

Beloved Nanny, aunt and friend, Elaine is survived by many nieces and nephews including Sophia Grevelis, Joyce Kokinos, Michael R. Phelan, Peter J. Phelan, Anne Elizabeth Preble, George March, Michael March, Manuel Assiminas, and by the children she raised, Sabine, Adam and Erik Rothman.

Always kind and loving, open to new ideas and accepting of all, Elaine embraced people without judgement and shared her gifts without condition. Caring for others, she was a talented cook, a constant poll worker and a gifted singer who joined the choir at Concord Baptist Church in Boston's South End, where she lived for many years. Her deep faith led her to service in hospitals as a lay Eucharist Minister.

Bookending more than two decades on West Brookline Street, Elaine worked as a secretary at the Essex House Hotel in New York and then at Boston Children's Hospital and Beth Israel Hospital. After living in the South End, she moved to Salem, MA and joined her beloved St. Peter's Episcopal Church, where she will be laid to rest.

ARRANGEMENTS: The funeral will be held on Monday, June 10th, 2024 at 11am at St. Peter's – San Pedro Episcopal Church, an affirming, welcoming, and bilingual community of faith, serving in God's name in historic, Salem, MA since 1733.
