Eileen M (Jennings) White, age 87, wife of the late James White, of Salem died in the North Shore Medical Center, Salem following a brief illness.
A lifelong resident of Salem, and parishioner of St. James Church, she was born and raised in Salem the daughter of the late Patrick and Margaret (Leahy) Jennings. White attended St James Grammar School and was graduated from St. James High School., Class of 1941.
She then was employed by New England Telephone and Telegraph in Salem as an operator for several years until continuing her career briefly at Ann and Hope in Danvers and Bomac in Beverly. She later retired from the switchboard at Eastern Bank in Lynn.
She is survived by three sisters, Nancy Mulligan and her husband Robert of Salem, Josephine DiFilippo and her husband Ron of Danvers, and Margaret Bellaconis of Peabody; a sister in law Rosemary Jennings of Salem and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Salem Police Dept Captain William Jennings and John Jennings and two sisters Kathleen Jennings and Patricia Jennings.
Her funeral will be held on Monday at 9:15 AM from the Murphy Funeral Home 85 Federal St., Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. James Church, 156 Federal St., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visitation will be prior to the funeral on Monday from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Beverly.
