Eileen Elizabeth (Ryan) Hurley, age 86, of Salem, beloved wife of the late James R. Hurley, died Wednesday morning November 24, 2010 at Beverly Hospital. Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Edward W. and Anne M. (Welch) Ryan. Mrs. Hurley had resided in Salem all of her life. She was educated at St. James Grammar School and graduated from St. James High School in Salem.
After graduating from St. James, Mrs. Hurley attended Salem Hospital School of Nursing until she married and started her family. She later returned to her nursing education and spent her entire career as a nurse at Salem Hospital until her retirement after 30 years of service.
Mrs. Hurley was an active parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Church. She loved extended family vacations at the beach and traveling with her sisters. She also loved animals and had many favorite pets over the years. Mrs. Hurley always had time for a friend or animal in need.
Surviving her are her children, Kevin J. Hurley of Salem; James E. Hurley of Salisbury; Brian L. Hurley and his wife Susan of Raleigh, NC; her grandchildren, Erin E. and Daniel B. Hurley both of Raleigh, NC; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son David R. Hurley, her brothers and sisters, Reverend Leo K. Ryan, Edward W. Ryan, Jr., Dorothy M. Chenery, and Marion L. Young.
Mrs. Hurley's funeral will be held on Monday, November 29, 2010 at 9:15 a.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St.,(Cor of North St) Salem followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 260 North St., Salem, MA 01970 at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the Funeral Home. Internment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
