Edward Francis Kenney, 88, passed away at home on April 27, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Salem on August 9, 1932. He was the son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Kehoe) Kenney, Ed was raised in Salem and Danvers. He was proud of his North Shore roots.
Ed graduated from St Mary's High School in 1950. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Ed was a proud member of The 82 nd Airborne, and he was Sergeant First Class at the time of his discharge.
Ed began working at the United Shoe in Beverly after his military service. He was later employed by New England Telephone and Telegraph for over 30 years.
Ed met Vera Monaco and they married in Salem in 1959. They settled in Marblehead where they raised their family. They shared 59 years of marriage before her passing in 2018. Ed was a dedicated, loyal, and hardworking family man. He was a devoted father to his two children Maria and Patrick.
He enjoyed going to 82 nd Airborne conventions, flying, and being a member Vittori-Rocci Post. Ed also enjoyed cooking and spending time with his family.
Ed is survived by his loving daughter Maria Gilmore and her husband Wayne who he considered a son. He is also survived by his son Patrick, and his two grandchildren Lauren and Michael Gilmore, his sister-in-law Connie Lytle and many nieces and nephews.
Ed was predeceased by his parents, wife, and sister Ann Kenney Mullin.
Visiting Hours will be held at the Murphy Funeral Home, located at 85 Federal Street, Salem, on Saturday May 1 st , from 10 AM to 12 PM. A Graveside service will follow immediately after, at St. Mary's Cemetery, 226 North Street, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warriors Project in his name.
