Edward J. Joly, age 87, husband of the late Nancy (Latham) Joly, died peacefully Tuesday December 16, 2014 at his residence. Born in Salem, Mr. Joly was educated at Bowditch School and graduated from Salem High School. He started his career with Straus Tanning in Peabody and continued with John Flynn. He later earned and received his Plumbing and Heating and Pipefitters License and worked in his profession for many years.

Mr. Joly was involved in several community and civic organizations. He had served as the President of the Mack Park Playground Association as well as the the A.O.H. in Salem and had held many of the other Offices. He was a member of the K of C #76. After moving to Georgetown he continued with the serving with the Frank Meader Knights of Columbus Council in Georgetown. Professionally he was the President of the Local 21 and later the 102 Professional Workers of America Union.

Mr. Joly was devoted to his family and friends, always supporting his children and grandchildren. He travelled to Ireland on several occasions making many new friends and visiting the family homestead finding great enjoyment. He quickly made new friends and was loved by all who knew him.

Surviving him are his three children, Michael Joly and his wife Christine of Barnstead, NH, Erin M. (Joly) Pero and her husband Jim of Georgetown, MA and Sean Joly and his wife Catreina of Georgetown, MA, seven grandchildren, Lance, Brooke, Maura, Melissa, Caitlin, Connor and Meghan, and 5 great grandchildren, Zoey, Torri, Ryleigh, Brock and Colin and a large extended family.

He was predeceased by a s on Dennis Joly and his brothers and sisters Joe Joly, Mary Bowd, Rita Rosinski, Kenny Joly and Billy Joly.

His Funeral Mass will be held on December 20, 2014 at 11:15 from the Murphy Funeral Home 85 Federal St., Salem to be followed by a Funeral at 12 Noon on Saturday, December 20, 2014. Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 80 Atlantic Ave., Marblehead. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
