Peabody

Edward "Butch" Garabedian, age 80, husband for 58 years of Anna
(Hagopian) Garabedian, died in Radius Health Care Center, Danvers
following a long illness.

Born in Salem the son of the late Vartan and Haiganoush (Balian)
Garabedian, he was raised and educated in Peabody, graduating from
Peabody High School in the Class of 1946. Mr. Garabedian then joined
the United States Navy and proudly served his country.

Following his discharge, he became employed by Eastman Kodak in Peabody for over 25 years until his retirement. An avid golfer for many years, Mr. Garabedian then worked part-time during the summer at the Meadows Golf Course for approximately five years.

Mr. Garabedian was a longtime member of the Masonic Essex Lodge of
Salem. His passion for many years has been providing the Edward
Garabedian Scholarship, in honor of his late son who died in March of
1989, to graduating students of Peabody High School through the annual
Edward Garabedian Scholarship Dance.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Garabedian is survived by two children
Peabody City Councilor Michael Garabedian and is wife Marian of Peabody and Ava Boghosian and her husband Steve of Stem, NC; three sisters Sarah Tashjian of Needham, Helen Aprahamian of Westbury, NY, and Beatrice DerAnanian of Peabody, four grandchildren Amy Garabedian
Merritt and her husband Philip of Billerica, Jillian Garabedian of
Peabody, Stephanie Boghosian of Stem, NC and Garo Boghosian and his
wife Bobbie of Efland, NC; five great grandchildren Aidan and Ailey
Merritt and Sophia, Macie and Hailey Boghosian; and many nieces and
nephews.

He was predeceased by a son Edward "Amir" Garabedian; two brothers
Jacob and Michael Garabedian and a sister Anna Tashjian.

His funeral will be held on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. in the Murphy Funeral
Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St.) Salem. Relatives and friends
are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Wednesday
from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. during which Masonic services will be held at
7:00 P.M. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. In Lieu
of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions may do so to
the Edward Garabedian Scholarship Fund, c/o North Shore Bank, 32 Main
