Edward F. Colbert, 87, husband of Edith A. (Carlton) Colbert, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage, died surrounded by his family, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers of June 9, 2010. He attended St. Mary's Grammar School in Salem, St John's Prep (Class of 1940) and Northeastern University. He was employed by GE at their Riverworks Plan in Lynn for 45 years. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army, serving during WWII and the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife Edith, children Suzanne Porter of Holderness, NH, Dennis "Bill" Colbert of Salem, Steven and his wife Maryann of Peabody, Michael and his wife Kim of Hampstead, NH and Christopher and his wife Christine Glenelg, MD. He also leaves 10 grandchildren, Jennifer Curtin, Jason Porter, Dan, Katie, and Caroline Colbert, Meaghan, Brian and Kevin Colbert, Sarah and Eamon Colbert, 3 great grandchildren, Caeley, Michael and Jack Curtin, 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Gilbert of Peabody and Maddie Creutz of Abington, MA as well as many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held on Monday, June 14, 2010 at 9:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North ST) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in ST James Chapel, 161 Federal ST., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
