Duarte Lopes Barros, age 83, died Wednesday morning July 11, 2012 at Salem Hospital.
Born in Portugal, son of the late Francisco and Eufemia (Morais) Barros.
Once he completed his education in Portugal he served in the Army. He later was employed as a truck driver and emigrated to the the United States.
He settled in Peabody and became employed by Tan Rite Leather Company until his retirement. He was a longtime member of the C.L.C. and a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody.
Mr. Barros is survived by his daughter, Olga Barros of Peabody, a nephew John Figueiredo & his wife of Danvers, their daughters and family, as well as nieces and nephews locally and in Portugal.
He was predeceased by a son Victor Barros and two sisters.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visitation will be prior to the funeral from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St.) Salem. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
