Dorothy Coogan "Buttercup" Rankin died Thursday July 2nd at Devereux House after suffering with dementia. She was well cared for by their exceptional staff. She was the daughter of Dorothy Fahey and Thomas Coogan. She was known for her fabulous dinner parties, cooking classes, wedding cakes, fruitcakes, and storytelling. She touched all who knew her and made gourmet meals for Meals on Wheels, and volunteered at the Marblehead Festival of Arts when it first started out 50 years ago. She would like to thank Devereux House, Pondview Lodge, and Friend St. PACE for all their help, kindness and caring during her time of need.

She is predeceased by her parents, brothers, and husband of 46 years, Richard "Ricardo" Rankin. She leaves behind her cousins Judy Fahey Silck of Winthrop, Beverly Lembo of Canton, her nieces Carol Rankin Basye, Ann Rankin McCarty both of North Carolina, her daughter L. A. Rankin and her beloved Flopsy.

Her Memorial Service will be held at noon on Monday, July 13th, 2015 at Old North Church, 35 Washington St., Marblehead, MA. There will be a reception in the parish hall following the service. At the family's request there will be no visiting hours. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers please make a donation of DVD's or Dunkin Donuts Munchkins to Devereux House in Marblehead, or Pondview Lodge in Lynn.
