Dorothy J. (Brown) Day, age 83, of Salem, died early Thursday morning, October 9 in the Peabody Glenn Nursing home, following a brief illness. She and her husband Robert W. Day would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this Sunday, October 12.
Born in Salem the daughter of the late Arthur R. and Josephine (Phelan) Brown, she was raised and educated in Salem. She was graduated from Salem High School in the Class of 1942.
Mrs. Day then became a dental assistant for several years for Dr. Barry as well as a nurse's aid at Salem Hospital until marrying and beginning her family.
A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she has been a member of the knitting group known as the "Knitwits" since high school . She also enjoyed playing in local candlepin bowling leagues, spending time with her family, travel and was an American Red Cross C.P.R. instructor.
Mrs. Day is survived by two children Patricia A. Dumond and her husband Daniel of Peabody and Robert W. Day, Jr. of Lynn; two grandchildren Jennifer Liberge and her husband Michael of Salem and Lisa Sullivan and her husband Paul of Essex; two great grandchildren Kayla Mulloy of Essex and Daniel R. Liberge of Salem and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers Arthur and Phillip Brown and a sister Marie Pothier.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral at 10:00 A.M. in St. James Church, 161 Federal St, Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 P.M. Interment will be private.
