IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donald G.
Polich
October 22, 1934 – August 2, 2025
Marblehead, MA - Donald George Polich (90), of Marblehead, passed away on Saturday August 2, 2025 at Salem Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born October 22, 1934 in West Olive, MI, Donald was the son of the late Anne (Kunkel) and Nicholas Polich.
Donald, the oldest of two, grew up attending a one-room schoolhouse throughout his adolescence and went on to graduate from Holland High School at the age of 16 years old. Continuing his education, he attended Michigan State University and received a bachelor's degree in engineering. From there, he and his beloved wife, Nelva (Bolthouse), moved to Waltham after he was employed by Raytheon. However, Don was a true entrepreneur and visionary as he founded three electronic manufacturing companies over the course of 20 years. Known for his commitment to others, Don was an inspired leader who championed his employees' growth through continuing education and pioneered initiatives to provide meaningful employment for veterans with disabilities.
As committed as Don was to his work, his greatest joy was his family. A devoted husband, father of three, grandfather of five, and great-grandfather of five, he cherished every moment spent with them, whether in Marblehead or Hernando, FL. An avid fisherman, Don loved taking friends and family deep-sea fishing for tuna, fluke, and stripers—always with the hope of catching enough to cover the day's fuel. As the captain of his crew, he was the first one awake, packing the cooler with sandwiches to last the day on the water. When not at sea, Don could often be found on the golf course perfecting his swing, on the tennis courts enjoying a good match with friends, or in the kitchen cooking up a towering stack of his famous pancakes, complete with all the fixings. He was also a lifelong and dedicated member of the New Apostolic Church, faithfully serving for many years as a deacon, priest, and rector in the Boston congregation and throughout New England.
Donald is survived by his wife of 60 years Nelva, his son Randall and his spouse Anita, his son Jeffrey and his spouse Cassandra, his daughter Nikki Miller and her spouse Brian, his grandchildren Donald and his spouse Rachel, Zachary, Maxwell, Caitlyn and Margaret. Also, survived by 5 great grandchildren and brother David, and his spouse Dalene.

For Don, fishing was never just about the catch – it was about patience, peace, and the company he kept. His faith in Jesus was steady, like the anchor of his soul. The words of an old fisherman's prayer seem fitting:
"God grant that I may live to fish until my dying day, and when it comes to my last cast, I then must humbly pray; When in the Lord's safe landing net, I'm peacefully asleep, That in His mercy, I be judged good enough to keep."
