Donald A. McKeen

September 27, 1931 – January 11, 2017

Donald A. McKeen, age 85, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2017 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. Born in Salem, MA, son of the late Frank Donald McKeen and Helen (Crosby) McKeen, Donald graduated from St. John's Prep in 1950 and then Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 1954. He then served 2 years active duty in the US Navy stationed in Sabego, Japan as a Naval control shipping officer.  He sailed in the Merchant Marines as a deck officer on tankers, cargo ships and passenger ships. He spent 32 years at sea, the last 16 years of which were on an LNG Tanker running between Bontang, Borneo and various ports in Japan.  He also spent 10 years in the intelligence community. Don was a member of the Salem A.O.H., The Salem Moose Lodge, and St. Michael's Polish Club in Peabody.

He leaves behind one sister Joan, one son Mike, two grandsons Mike and Joe McKeen, one daughter Maura Gunning and her husband Andrew, three more grandchildren Cooper, Madison and Jack Gunning, and one cousin Bob Crosby.

Visiting hours for Donald will take place on Monday January 16, 2017 from 4 to 7PM at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (corner of North St.) Salem, MA 01970.
