Obituary

HUNT, Donald Aldrich, 91, passed away peacefully at home on January 26, 2022 after a long struggle with CHF. He was surrounded by the love of his wife of 50 yrs., Louise, & daughters Donalyn and Alyson. His daughter, Alexandra and son Jonathan visited days earlier.

Rev. Hunt was born in Pawtucket, RI to Gordon Everett Hunt and Helen Aldrich Hunt. He grew up in the towns of Dedham and Westwood, MA. He received his BA from Boston University and M. Div. from Berkeley School of Theology at Yale, in New Haven CT. Rev. Hunt was commissioned to the USAF/SAC and rose to the rank of Captain under the command of Gen. Curtis LeMay. He was stationed at Sidi Slimane, Morocco and he was proud to have served his country. Rev. Hunt began as a curate at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Beverly, MA. He then became Rector at St. John's Episcopal Church in Franklin, MA. While at St. John's, he fulfilled his vision of building a new church for his growing parish. Shortly thereafter, Rev. Hunt was called to serve as the new Rector at Church of Our Savior in Middleborough, MA.

In 1969, Rev. Hunt established the Chaplaincy program at Beverly Hospital. Conjunctively, he supervised the founding and establishment of the Beverly Hospital Accredited Clinical Pastoral Education program (ACPE). During his tenure at Beverly Hospital, Rev. Hunt served the spiritual needs of both patients and staff as well as training over 500 chaplaincy students of various faiths, ages and nationalities. He was one of the founding members of North Shore Hospice (now Care Dimensions) and spent many hours actively advocating the new concept of hospice care, in the surrounding North Shore communities. At the end of his life, Rev. Hunt came full circle being compassionately cared for by the wonderful staff of VNACARE Hospice, to whom the family is more than grateful.

Don loved spending time in his beloved Marblehead enjoying boating with his wife and children. He and Louise shared a passion for horses and embarked on several riding trips to Scotland and Ireland. They also loved to visit his ancestral land in the UK. He had a lifelong love of animals and cherished his six German Shepherds over the course of 50 years. Don was also an avid gardener and especially enjoyed cultivating his prized roses. Don's character encompassed truth, commitment and love and his great humor delighted all who knew him.

The Rev. Hunt is survived by his devoted wife, Louise; his four children and their spouses, Donalyn and (Kenneth) Krozy of Andover, Jonathan and (Tonya) Hunt of Ponte Vedra, FL, Alyson and (Bruce) Fitzsimmons of Arlington, and Alexandra Soule of Andover. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Victoria & (Anthony) Grillo, Jacques & (Suzanne) Quilliam, Caroline and Courtney Quilliam; Katie and Sara Hunt; Kyle, Emily and Hunter Fitzsimmons; Alicia, Autumn and Jackson Soule and his two adored great-grandchildren. He is survived by his only brother, Col. (Ret.) Gordon M. Hunt and his wife Ann, a niece Jolene Lunsford and a nephew Jeffrey and their respective families.
