Obituary

Donald Anthony Corrigan died on June 5, 2015 in Salem, MA. He was born on June 12, 1936 in Newark, NJ. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sharon (Huisman); his daughter Karina, and her daughter Anneke all of Salem; his daughter Caitlin, her companion Jorge, and his daughter Zoe all of New York City; as well as by beloved family and friends around the world.

He earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in metallurgy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. He remained close to his fraternity brothers throughout his life. He was a founder of the International Precious Metals Institute (IPMI) on whose board he served for 39 years. He spent the majority of his career at Handy & Harman where he was Vice President of Research and Development.

He enjoyed racquet sports and followed current events and politics voraciously, often reading four newspapers a day. He was also a crossword puzzle enthusiast, an interest he inherited from his mother. He and his wife loved to travel, particularly in Scotland where they often stayed for months. One of his greatest pleasures was an elegant and delicious meal with his family. He invariably knew the perfect restaurant and hotel in far-flung cities, even those he had never visited.

He and his family lived for many years in Middlebury, CT. In 2001, he retired with his wife to Quechee, VT. They moved to Salem, MA in 2014 in anticipation of the arrival of their granddaughter, Anneke, who brought him great joy in the final year of his life.

Services will be held later, privately. Contributions can be made in his memory to Friends of Nalamdana (http://www.nalamdana.org/) or CurePSP (http://www.psp.org/). Arrangements are under the direction of the Murphy Funeral home, 85 Federal St., Salem. For additional information or online guest book please call 978 744 0497 or visit www.MurphyFuneralHome.com.
