At age 93, of Salem, passed away Sunday morning, February 3, 2019 at the Deveraux House in Marblehead. Born in Salem, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Joseph Chouinard and Florence White. He served his country in the US Navy, serving two tours of duty in WWII and the Korean Conflict, and being awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal and Asiatic Pacific Medal 1 Star. He retired from Duracell International as Director of Technical Marketing after a long career with the company. He owned Don James & Company, a large auction house located in Danvers which he operated for over 20 years. He was co-owner of Chouinard-Mandeville Kennels, the winningest kennel on the east coast at the time, receiving many awards and commendations over 25 years.
He is predeceased by his spouse Janice Cardner. He is survived by his daughter Christine Galgano and her partner Pamela Wermuth of Belchertown, MA, his son Donald Chouinard Jr. and his wife Elaine Chouinard of Danville, CA, his son Jay Chouinard and his husband Daniel Parlin of South Hamilton, MA, and his daughter Michelle Chouinard of Salem, MA. He is predeceased by his daughter Lorraine Chouinard of Marblehead, MA. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Lauren Chouinard and Joshua Chouinard of Danville, CA, and Andrew Chouinard of Gloucester, MA, his brother Sonny Chouinard and his wife Claude of Florida, his sister Shirley Sirois and her husband Al of Maine, his sister Midge Marcelli and her late husband Frank of Beverly, and his sister Donna Symmes of New Hampshire. He is predeceased by his sister Diane Symmes of Salem, MA.
Visiting hours are at Murphy Funeral Home in Salem, MA on Thursday, February 7, 2019 from 4pm – 8pm. Services are at Sainte Anne Parish, 290 Jefferson Ave, Salem MA, on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 11:00 am. Burial will be at Saint Mary's Cemetery, 226 North St, Salem MA, following the service.
