Obituary

Dolores Grace (Provencher) Marraffa, 88, of Salem, passed away at home with her beloved husband Dominic R. Marraffa by her side on October 2, 2020, from Cholangiocarcinoma.

Born in Cambridge, she was raised in Salem by her parents Jean (Phyllides) and Joseph Provencher. Dolores met her High School Sweetheart, Dominic, at a Bowditch School dance in 1946 and her first impression of him was "Wow!" After their first date to the movies, they soon became inseparable, enjoying movie dates, hayrides, parties, dances and ice cream sundaes at Mary's Sweetland. They were President and Vice President of the Glee Club. She loved to watch him play football on the weekends. He was the Salem High School quarterback. They were married on April 20, 1952 at St. Mary's Italian Church in Salem.

As a teenager, Dolores worked at Woolworths on the ribbon counter. She was the Secretary for the Salem Evening News for a year and the Secretary for Laborer's Union Local 14 for over 20 years. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Dolores was an avid reader, enjoyed watching movies and PBS series, listening to Neil Diamond music, doing crosswords and jumbles, posting Happy Birthdays to family and friends on Facebook, and rooting for her favorite teams the Red Sox and Patriots.

Her greatest joy in life was her Family. She especially loved her Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. In her words, "some of the most enjoyable things about being a grandmother are hugs, kisses, smiling faces as happy to see me as I am to see them. Couldn't wait to hear their voices, watch them open presents, having them come to visit and watching them grow or learn new things." She was always there for sporting events, musical performances, graduations, birthdays, and there with her radiant smile and a hug when you needed one. She was an exceptional confidant and caretaker.

She is survived by her beloved husband Dominic R. Marraffa of Salem. Her daughters, Susan Marraffa of Salisbury and Judi Marraffa of Salem, Her sons, Dominic R. Marraffa Jr. and his wife Kellie (Harrison) of Derry, NH and Tony Marraffa and his partner Kim Teves of Fairhaven. Her Grandchildren, Josselyn, Alli, Jamey, Kyle, Perry, AJ, Dominic, Kasey, Emily, and Anthony. Her Great-Grandchildren, Jacoby, Sadie, Bodey, Mikey and Maeve. Her sister, Grace (Provencher) Neve of Amesbury and her brother Joseph "Buddy" Provencher of Salem, several nieces, nephews, extended family members and her dearest friend Barbara Newman of Salem. She is predeceased by her daughters Pamela Lavoie and Linda St. Pierre, and her brother Robert Provencher.
