Diane Sara English

It is with profound sadness, yet with faith in God’s promise of eternal life, that we announce the passing of Diane S. English, who passed away peacefully and unexpectedly at home on Monday, September 21st. We take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace in God’s loving care and reunited with her father. 

Diane was a strong, loving, unapologetic, and deeply devoted woman whose vibrant spirit, generous heart, and unwavering loyalty shaped the lives of everyone who knew her. She had a way of making everyone around her feel seen, heard, and loved. Her presence was unmistakable, her heart was enormous, and she left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. 

Music was woven into the fabric of Diane’s life. She was blessed with a beautiful voice and a natural gift for music, beginning with years spent playing the piano as a young girl. Later in life, she became the lead singer of the rock band Lizzie Borden & The Axes, which toured popular nightclubs throughout Boston. Performing was a reflection of the confidence, spirit, and individuality that defined her.

 She grew up in Lynnfield and graduated from Lynnfield High School. Exceptionally intelligent, she went on to attend Northeastern University, where she earned her degree and ultimately became a paralegal. Diane was also deeply devoted to her faith in God, which guided and sustained her throughout her life. She was very proud of her Armenian heritage and cherished the traditions, culture, and family history that connected her to her Armenian roots.

 Above all else, Diane was a mother. A fierce, devoted, and endlessly proud mother to her two girls, she poured herself into every part of their lives. She was there for every sport, every activity, every performance, and every milestone. She coached cheerleading, helped at the dance studio, and could always be counted on to be the loudest voice cheering from the sidelines. She often called her daughters “her whole world,” and they never had to wonder if they were loved. They knew it in every way that mattered. 

Diane was also a devoted daughter to her mother, Bea, whom she loved dearly and considered not only her mother but also her best friend. Their bond was undeniable, and Diane treasured every moment they shared. Her greatest joy continued into motherhood’s next chapter as she became an incredible Nana and Menz to her three grandchildren: Ani, 7; Ayla, 7 months; and Eviana, just 3 weeks old. They were her pride and joy, and she adored each of them with her whole heart. She cherished every moment with them, and they adored her just as much. She was so proud to be their Nana and Menz, and nothing brought her greater happiness than being surrounded by her girls and her grandchildren.

 Diane was also an incredibly loyal friend. Once you had her in your corner, you had her for life. She treasured the lifelong friendships and close relationships she built throughout the years. Among those who held a special place in her heart were Aggie, Linda, and Michelle, along with many more friends who loved her dearly. 

In retirement, when she wasn’t with her children, grandchildren, or mother, she spent much of her time helping families care for their beloved pets. She had a special tenderness for animals, caring for each one with the same love and devotion she gave to her own family. 

Diane was predeceased by her father, John DerAnanian; her grandparents, Haiganoosh Garabedian and Vartan Garabedian; her godmother, Sara Tashjian; and her uncle, Jacob Garabedian. She leaves behind her beloved mother, Beatrice DerAnanian; her daughters, Nicole Jones and Stephanie English; her daughter-in-law, Steph Coury; her partner, Barry Melanson; and her three granddaughters, Ani, Ayla, and Eviana, along with countless extended family members and lifelong friends who loved her dearly.

Her legacy is one of fierce love, music, faith, Armenian pride, laughter, loyalty, and an unwavering devotion to the people and animals she cared for. Her girls will carry her with them in everything they do, and Ani, Ayla, and Eviana will grow up knowing just how deeply their Nana and Menz loved them. She will be missed beyond words, but her voice, her spirit, her faith, and the immense love she gave so freely will remain with all who knew and loved her. May God bless her and grant her eternal peace.

Memorial services will be held for Diane at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St, Salem, on Sunday, September 27, 2026 with a visitation starting at 10 am and a memorial service beginning at 11 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
