Diamantina Senes (Miranda) Ortins, age 82, wife of the late Joao Ortins, died on Monday, November 19, 2012 in the Kaplan Family House following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born, raised and educated in Graciosa in the Azores of Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Francisco and Alice Senes (Bettencourt) Miranda. In 1975 she and her late husband moved to Peabody. Mrs. Ortins was initially employed by Charlie Leather and later was employed by Altron Electronics in Burlington.


In 1996, she and her late husband returned to Graciosa where they lived until his death. Mrs. Ortins then returned to the United States to be with her children and family. Mrs. Ortins has been an active member of Our Lady of Fatima Church as well as the Azorean Brotherhood of the Holy Ghost in Peabody.


Mrs. Ortins is survived by two children Helio Ortins and his wife Maria of Danvers and Joseph Ortins and his wife Connie of Peabody; a daughter in law Maria F. Ortins, wife of the late Joao Ortins who formerly resided in Peabody; a brother Jose Miranda and his wife Margarida of Turlock, CA; a sister Maria Senes Bettencourt and her husband Joao of Gilroy, CA; 7 grandchildren, Jimmy Ortins and his wife Beth of Danvers, Diana Hennessey and her Husband Philip of Danvers, Sandy Hounsome and her husband Andrew of Georgetown, Marlene Ortins of Middleboro, Jessica Ortins of Danvers, and Christopher and Nicholas Ortins both of Peabody; 5 great grandchildren Jackson, Thomas, Julia, Vincent, and Lucas; and many nieces and nephews.


Local services will be held, Wednesday evening, November 21, 2012 in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St, Cor of North St, Salem. Visitation will be from 4: 00 PM until 7:00PM to be followed by a Vigil Service at 7:00 PM. by Fr. Christopher Gomes. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, c/o Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston, 75 Sylvan St, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923 or the North Shore Cancer Center, 102 Endicott St, Danvers, MA 01923.
