Dennis S. Estabrook, age 88, of Lynn formerly of Salem died Monday morning, August 22, 2011 in Union Hospital, Lynn following a brief illness.
Born in Salem, the son of the late James and Alice (Stewart) Estabrook he had attended the Bowditch School in Salem and was later employed by the Pequot Mill in Salem until joining the Army Air Corps as a member of the Anti Aircraft Artillary. Mr. Estabrook participated in many campaigns including the D-Day invasion.
Following his discharge, he worked as a laborer in a chemical plant in New Jersey until becoming employed by the City of Lynn at Pine Grove Cemetery for 22 years. An avid cribbage player, Mr. Estabrook had been a parishioner of St. Michaels Church in Lynn and had been a member of the the Legion Tower Bowling League. A former crossing guard for the Harrington School in Lynn he had helped to operate the Gift Shop at the Life Care Gift Shop.
He is survived by a sister Alice of New Bedford.
Mr. Estabrook is predeceased by his girlfriend Claire Smith he was the brother of the late Fred, George, Edward, Lawrence, Hollis and Walter Estabrook and the late Esther Gauthier.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 10:30 AM in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (cor of North St) Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Interment will be private in Bourne National Cemetery.
