Chicago and Northampton, MA - Davin Edward Mellus, DMD, age 40, husband of Jill Weinberg, passed away Tuesday September 16, 2014 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. Dr. Mellus was born in Salem, MA and was the son of Edward and Virginia (Busteed) Mellus.
Dr. Mellus was a graduate of St. John's Preparatory School and continued his education at the University of Miami. He received his Doctor of Dental Medicine from Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine, a General Practice Residency at University of Vermont/Fletcher Allen Healthcare and his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA. As well as serving in the Army at Tacoma, WA he also served in Chicago, IL and San Antonio, TX. He served as Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Dental and Trauma Research Detachment at Naval Training Center,
Great Lakes, Illinois and at the Institute of Surgical Research/U.S. Army Burn Center at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas as Chief of Craniomaxillofacial Surgery and Research as well as Assistant Professor of Surgery. Following his Military Service, Dr. Mellus started his private Practice in East Long Meadow, MA.
Dr. Mellus was a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, a fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and a Fellow of the American College of Oral and maxillofacial Surgeons.
Dr. Mellus loved the Red Sox and had a love of traveling. He very much enjoyed his career. He was very well read and was accomplished professionally. He was widely published, including the Army Journal of Dental Medicine.
Surviving him in addition to his wife and parents are his Brother Braun Mellus of Danvers and many cousins and many great friends. Private funeral services were held.
