David Veronese, 57, of Peabody passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at home. He was born in Salem, MA on August 25, 1960, the son of Mary Jane A. (Carr) Veronese and the late David E. Veronese.
Dave began his education in the Peabody Public Schools and graduated from St. John's Prep High School in the class of 1978. He attended college at St. Francis College in Biddeford, ME and Northeastern University in Boston.
He was always a hard worker, holding positions in IT and Retail Management where he was able to successfully apply his intellect, logic and organizational skills. A natural-born innovator, David relished finding the perfectly practical solution to any problem.
His greatest accomplishments, however, were the friends he made and people whose lives he touched; willingly sharing his time and humor along the way with his co-workers at Chandler's Ice Cream, Davis Square Liquors, Sylvania, Siemans, Pump n Pantry, BBN, Genuity and Pigott Electric. During David's last few years he devoted his time and talents to caring for his mother and helping her through some challenging health issues; bringing her through it to a more enjoyable, healthy place.
In his youth, Dave was active in the St. John's and St. Ann's CYO, the Boy Scouts, volunteering many summers in the kitchen at Camp Fatima E.C. Week. He enjoyed swimming, scuba diving, skiing, playing darts and he eventually developed an affinity for classic cars, drag racing, music, movies and boating; racking up friends, laughs and funny stories along the way. He was the unofficial keeper of the family lore held dearly and retold at will.
David was and is deeply loved and is an unforgettable joy branded on the hearts of his family and friends. He is survived by his mother, Mary Jane Veronese of Peabody, his sister and brother-in-law Ann and Eric van Opstal, Jr., nephews Timothy and Andrew van Opstal as well as his aunts, cousins, many beloved extended family members, brothers from another mother and dear friends, both old and new.
David's wake will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal Street, Salem, MA. A Funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 11:00am at St. John the Baptist Church 17 Chestnut Street, Peabody, MA.
