David Phillips, RN age 61, of Salem died at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, .Tuesday evening, September 6, 2011.
Born in the son of the late James and Shirley (Garland) Phillips, he was raised and educated in Salem. A graduate of Bishop Fenwick High School and member of its swim team, Mr. Phillips had attend the University of Maine, Orono. He later moved to Maryland for a brief time working a hand on a local horse farm. When he returned to Salem he was a zoo keeper at the Franklin Park Zoo until he attended nursing school.
Mr. Phillips was the first Head male nurse in Beverly Hospital's Labor and Delivery Room. He later became the Head Nurse of the Emergency Room and was later employed by the Melrose Wakefield Hospital until becoming ill.
A proud father, he was and avid New England Patriots Fan.
He is survived by two sons Dylan Phillips of Salem and Colin Phillips of Rockport and a brother James Phillips of Guadalupe, Ca.
