David L. Cross, fondly known to his family as "Davey," passed away on December 18, 2024, at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. Born on September 21, 1938, he was the son of Bernard O. Cross and Dorothy (Hanson) Cross.
He was a long-time resident of Swampscott and attended Swampscott High School. David was a dedicated foreman for the Swampscott Public Works Department for more than 35 years. In his earlier years, David enjoyed spending time on the water as a fisherman.
He had a passion for the organizations he was involved in throughout his life, including more than 56 years as a member of the Aleppo Shriners. He was also a member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company, the Royal Order of Jesters, and many other Masonic organizations.
A lover of travel, David often recounted the special family trip to Newfoundland in 2019, a memory he cherished deeply.
He was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis J. Vray, to whom he was married 31 years, and his brother, William Cross, who passed away on November 12, 2024. He is survived by his stepdaughter Jean Riedlinger and son-in-law Anthony Nigrelli of Maryland, his cousins, Caryl and Vinny Burridge of Ipswich, MA, and many dear friends and relatives.
A celebration of life will be held for family and friends at Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal Street, Salem, MA at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 27, 2024. Calling hours will precede the service starting at 9:00 AM, with a Masonic Funeral ceremony at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, https://lovetotherescue.org/ , a cause close to David's heart
