Obituary

Daniel Leo Sullivan, 83, of Marblehead, MA passed away on Thursday August 9th 2018.

He is the oldest of son of the late Helen Napier Sullivan of Winthrop, MA and the late

Daniel Leo Sullivan of Winthrop.

Dan is survived by his love and wife, Linda Sullivan, of Marblehead, his daughter, Caitlin

Sullivan, her children Lily, Rowan and Samantha Mosher of Corvallis, Oregon, his son,

Sean Sullivan and his children, Kiera and Eila Sullivan, their mother Tamara Sullivan all

of Marblehead, his brother Paul Sullivan and his wife Ulla of Boston and South

Dartmouth, MA, his brother Donald Sullivan, his wife Lois of Winthrop, MA and their

daughter, Katie and her husband Evan Koch of Philadelphia, PA, his first wife Charlene

Tyler of Marblehead and a long list of friends (many lifetime), former employees and all

those whose lives he has touched with his sense of humor and gift for storytelling.

Dan (aka Captain as his grandchildren affectionately called him) graduated from Boston

College High School in 1953. He valued his Jesuit education and went on to continue

his education at the University of Massachusetts, Suffolk University and Boston

University. Dan was given his first boat at the age of one, a kayak made by his

grandfather. Since that time, his true love has been the sea, especially on sailboats,

racing and cruising locally and all over the world. In addition, he was one of the longest

active members of the Boston Yacht Club in Marblehead. He took his kids out sailing all

the time and spent many hours at sea teaching, listening to his favorite song "Oh Danny

Boy" and regaling his stories. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren and a

loving husband to his wife to whom we are all grateful for loving him and extending his

life far beyond any of us thought imaginable.

Ever the storyteller, his most uttered words were "Did I ever tell you the story about..."

Always generating laughter. He had a brilliant wit. He founded and built a computer

software company, Taxware International, starting with just two employees and growing

it to over 200. Not only was he the founder and CEO but genuinely appreciated the

people who worked for and with him. It was like a big family and he created that

atmosphere. He was generous with family, friends and organizations that were special

to him. He leaves a true legacy and we will all miss him beyond words. Dan/Dad/

Captain, wherever you go may the road rise up to meet you and the wind forever be at

your back.

In lieu of flowers, and in the spirit of Dan's unending generosity, please perform a

random act of kindness or pay it forward in his memory. A celebration of his life will be

held at a yet to be determined date.
