IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cynthia A.
Victory
February 26, 1934 – July 8, 2023
Cynthia A. (Looker) Victory, 89, of Beverly, MA, formerly a longtime resident of Salem, MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 8 at Ledgewood Rehabilitation, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Born in February 1934 in Lynn, MA to Bryce O. Looker and Frances (LeBlanc) Looker, she was the sister of Robert Looker and Alice (Looker) Zolla. The oldest of three siblings, she was a graduate of Lynn English High School (1951), where she was active in theatrical productions. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Salem Teachers College (now Salem State University), graduating in 1955. She taught elementary school students in Lynn for several years, then traveled cross-country in a 1953 Plymouth with her sister and two other friends to take a teaching job in Long Beach, California. A year later she returned to the East Coast and married Peter T. Victory in October 1960. Together they raised their three children in Salem, with Cynthia returning briefly to teaching as a tutor. In 1978, she began working for The Cabot Market Letter, where she was a copywriter and editor until she retired in 2002. She then enjoyed traveling with Peter in the US, Canada, Europe, and Costa Rica, and to New Zealand and the G-M Ranch in Montana with her sister. In addition to volunteering as a docent at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, she was a Eucharistic Minister and volunteer with St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, and also served as a volunteer with the Mack Industrial School Corporation scholarship fund.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Peter T. Victory. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen M. Victory Hannisian and her husband Robert Hannisian of Danvers; sons Thomas Victory and Joseph Victory, both of Salem; granddaughter Aurora Hannisian of Danvers; and many beloved family members and friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Ledgewood Rehabilitation and the hospice team from Care Dimensions for their kind and compassionate care for Cynthia. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Cynthia's name to Care Dimensions at CareDimensions.org/Donate.
