Cynthia Lockett Hooks, 65, of Marblehead, died Friday July 5, 2013 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, Massachusetts after a courageous thirteen month battle with cancer. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, teacher and friend.
Born August 6, 1947, Cynthia was the daughter of Joseph Frederick and Elizabeth Vose Lockett. Raised in Needham and Wellesley, with summers spent in Rockport, she graduated from the Dana Hall School in 1965. Cynthia attended Wheelock College, graduating with a B.S. in Education in 1969 and completed her Master of Education at Boston University in 1978.
Cynthia wed David J. Hooks in 1977 and subsequently shared over thirty happy years of marriage.
She began her long teaching career in Quincy, where she taught for eleven years before returning home in 1983 to raise her young children, Matthew and Jennifer. She returned to teaching in 1993 at the Coffin School in Marblehead where she taught 2nd and 3rd grade until her retirement in 2009. As a teacher, Cynthia was much-loved and respected by students, parents, and colleagues alike. She enjoyed little more than contributing to the growth of her students.
Cynthia and her family enjoyed time spent on the water and by the ocean. She treasured annual summer vacations to Vinalhaven Island, Maine with her family and took joy in entertaining both family and friends in Marblehead and at her family home in Rockport, Massachusetts. She enjoyed her retirement traveling the world with her husband David.
Cynthia is survived by her husband David J. Hooks, son Matthew L. Hooks, daughter Jennifer Hooks Mordini, son-in-law Richard G. Mordini and grandson Edric "Teddy" Hooks Mordini.
ARRANGEMENTS: Cynthia's funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Michael's Church, 26 Pleasant St, Marblehead, MA 01945. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be private.
At the family's request there are no visiting hours.
