Cynthia Arlene Doyle-Welsh, age 49 loving wife of Harlen Welsh, of Salem, died at North Shore Medical Center, Salem, Massachusetts on Thursday, December 5, 2013.
Born in Salmon, Idaho, the daughter of Ray and Wilma (Rose) Doyle, she attended local schools in upstate New York. Cynthia attended and received her Bachelor's Degree from McGill University. She then became employed as a research scientist at the Floating Hospital in Boston. Cynthia spent years at Tufts, focusing on children of premature birth. As a computer specialist she also became the senior Y2K programmer for the Newborn Screening Program where she specialized in new baby screening for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont and Rhode Island.
In recent years, Cynthia was the senior web developer for a K-12 website managed by Pearson Corporation, the Family Education Network.
Cynthia and her husband Harlen enjoyed travel to Mexico and more recently to Europe where they spent time in Florence and Rome. As an avid skier and a natural to boot, one of Cynthia's favorite experiences in life was a ski trip to Zermatt, Switzerland in 1999 with some of her very best friends. As a child, she attended private school in Spain where, as she liked to say, she was repressed under Franco. As a teenage army brat, she was the darling of C-class flights to Europe and witnessed mid-air refueling of fighter jets and surveillance aircraft. She was, above all, her father's daughter.
In addition to her parents she is survived by her sister Sabrina Ann DeBree of Ketchum, Idaho, two nieces and a nephew. She was predeceased by her brother Brian Doyle who passed in the previous year.
Cynthia's funeral will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Grace Episcopal Church, 385 Essex St, Salem MA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be private. At her family's request there are no visiting hours. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Peabody Essex Museum 161 Essex St. Salem, MA 01970.
