Obituary

Every family has a story… Welcome to ours…

It is with sad hearts and loving memories that the family of Christopher B. Hogan, age 57, announces his passing on June 22, 2016 at home surrounded by his adoring family. Another empty seat has been left with the loss of this sweet and dear man.

Born in Salem, Massachusetts on October 14, 1958, Chris was the son of the late James, Rita  (Cawley) and Nora (Gee) Hogan. Chris was raised in his beloved Salem and graduated from St. Mary's in Lynn and later Widener University in Wilmington, DE.

He was happily married for the past 25 years to the love of his life, his brown eyed girl Patricia (Tricia) Hogan- his true pal. Their partnership was a model for those around them. Their children, Matthew and Catherine were the center of Chris' life. His life force will now carry on in them.

Chris and Tricia began their life journey in Salem before moving to Camden, ME, and then later Wilmington, DE.

Chris worked for MBNA for 15 years in various positions and subsequently, he was employed by Citigroup as VP of Global Accounts and lastly at Corporation Service Company as National Account Manager.

A wonderful son, husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, he is lovingly remembered as a man of the highest integrity, ethics, generosity, and modesty.

Chris lost his physical battle with ALS, but it never conquered his beautiful Irish spirit. Chris' battle to the end with this devastating disease was marked by the same clarity and steadiness of spirit he embodied in his work and personal life. During his lengthy illness, he was lovingly cared for by his wife Tricia and his children. In his last year, Chris' devoted family and caregivers provided guidance, expertise and compassion and each is remembered for their loving contribution.

In addition to his family, Chris was proud of his friends on the North Shore of Boston. He sincerely considered it an honor to have known each one of them. He especially enjoyed their yearly "Manly Weekend" excursions to New Hampshire where, incidentally, he was voted "Most Manly Camper" for an unprecedented 30 years in a row.

Chris is also survived by his siblings, Anne T. Hogan and James M. Hogan of Wilmington, DE and Meg Dolan and her husband Kevin of Newton, PA; his mother in law Helen Carney of Woburn, Mass, as well as, many adoring nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his family, valued friends, and all he met. He urged his children to mourn him only as long as necessary because "they have much good work to do, and they should get busy doing it."

His life had a fullness that leaves ours less full. He would want you to raise a glass in remembrance of him. Cheers to a lovely husband, father, and friend. He loved you all, God bless.

The visitation hours will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at the Murphy Funeral home, 85 Federal street from 4-8 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. James Church on Wednesday, June 29 at 10:00 am, 160 Federal street, Salem Mass 01970.

Thoughtful and generous to the core, Chris would want the battle against ALS in the form of funding research so that others might be spared what he endured. Memorial contributions in Chris' honor may be made to ALS TDI, 300 Technology Square, Suite 400 Cambridge, MA 02139.
