Obituary

Charles Tgettis, aged 93, passed away on August 14, 2017.  Born Christ Tgettis, Charles unpretentiously was best known as "Charlie".
Charlie's life started in the small town of Douglas, MA but was mostly spent on Bow Street in Salem.  As a child and young adult he spent his life first at 2 Bow Street that he shared with his father Chris Tgettis, his mother, Florence and surviving brother Nicholas, his deceased brothers Harry and Alex, his deceased sister Alice surviving sisters Nora, Artemis and Helen.  He is also survived by one son, Steve and daughter in law Susan, three grand daughters Kendra Hutchins of Ithaca, New York, Hillary Tgettis of Northampton, MA, Amanda Ring and her husband Jon as well as their children Madison and Jacoby and step grandson Robert Shartrand of Albany, NY and many nieces and nephews.
Much of Charlie's secular work was at the General Electric plants in Lynn. Much of his non work time was spent serving as an elder in the Peabody MA congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses where he was respected for his caring and concern for others.  He was known for his modesty and the fact that he practiced what he preached.
Although naturally shy and soft spoken he was known as an outgoing and optimistic person who enjoyed talking to people and would tell friends and strangers the number of days until spring during the worse days of winter and share his faith.  He loved humor and enjoyed jokes but never at someone else's expense.  In his younger days, Charlie wrote poetry, played piano and sketched.  Charlie was known by young and old as an avid weather watcher and would carefully track the big storms of New England.
He continued to be optimistic and kept his faith which helped him go on after the loss of his devoted, inseparable wife of 63 years, Rose DiIsso Tgettis.  Almost to the end of their lives together they continued to do their signature walk year round at Salem Willows and in his typically optimistic style continued to tell strangers the number of days until the first day of spring.
