Obituary

Charles J. ("Mac") MacCarthy died peacefully on October 10, 2020 at Beverly Hospital after a brief period of illness.  He was 88 years old.

Born July 25, 1932 in Salem MA to Katherine V. (Lynch) MacCarthy and J. Leo MacCarthy, he was pre-deceased by his only sibling James L. MacCarthy.

Mac graduated from Salem High School in 1950 and married his high school sweetheart Lillian "Billie" (Banks) in 1954.  Mac & Billie met in Kindergarten and celebrated 54 years of marriage before her death in 2006.

Employed by General Electric Corporation for 30 years, Mac retired in 1985 after 30 years of service.  His title at the time of retirement was Manager of the Information Technology Center at the River Works Facility in Lynn, MA.  Mac also spent 21 years in the US Naval Reserve Submarine Service retiring as a Senior Chief Petty Officer.

An avid reader, photographer and world traveler in his 30 years of retirement, Mac also enjoyed walking daily at the Liberty Tree Mall.  In his younger years he found much satisfaction in instructing and participating in Drum and Bugle Corp including VFW National Championship Winning Lt. Norman Prince Post 1506 (Malden) "Princemen".

Mac is survived by his Loving Companion of the past 12 years Barbara Adams, his 4 children son Kenny MacCarthy & wife Tara, daughters Maureen MacCarthy, Ellen Lyons and Tricia Casale and husband Bill, as well as beloved niece Kathy Fotopoulos and husband Steve.  Loved by 8 grandchildren, Christopher, Leanne and Devon Sorrentino, Nicki Schey and husband Noah, Abbey Casale, Patrick Lyons and fiancé Lindsay Rescott, Julia Lyons, Athan Fotopoulos and wife Liana, and also by Great grandson Mason Duncan.

Services will be held graveside at St. Mary's Cemetery 226 North Street Salem, MA on Friday October 16, 2020 at 11 a.m.  All those wishing to pay respects are welcome. All those in attendance of the services are required to wear face masks and maintain social distancing guidelines. If you have symptoms or have come into contact with someone who has COVID-19, please stay at home.
