Obituary

Lifelong Marblehead resident Celia A. Johnston passed away the morning of Wednesday, April 13, 2022.

Celia was born in Marblehead and lived on Shepard Street, until only recently. There, her mother, Lillian, and father, Norman, raised her and her siblings David, Norma and Paul.

Celia was a strong, independent woman, having a long and successful career in the insurance industry in downtown Boston. Through her mother's later years, Celia was Lillian's devoted caretaker.

Celia was also the caretaker of the Johnston homestead and keeper of family traditions and history. Hosting Christmas and Easter celebrations, Celia updated the family on all the news and events of family connections within Marblehead and beyond. She never failed to send along a thoughtful birthday note.

Using her sharp mind and dry wit, Celia persevered with dignity while suffering with Parkinson's. Her family is forever grateful for the care she received at the Lafayette as well as the wonderful staff at Care Dimensions.

Celia was predeceased by her father, Norman H. Johnston, mother, Lillian M. Johnston, sister, Norma Regan, and her brothers Paul D. Johnston and David C. Johnston.

Her family of many nieces, nephews and her many friends will greatly miss her.

Services are private by request of Celia's family, and are under the direction of the Murphy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Celia's honor to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite 102-B, Danvers, MA 01923.
