Catherine "Kay" (Brennan) Fadden, wife of the late Boston Fireboat, Engine 31, Firefighter John F. Fadden; of Marblehead, died peacefully at home Sunday afternoon surrounded by her family.
She was born, raised and educated in Staten Island, NY, the daughter of the late John and Brigid (Curran) Brennan. Following her graduation from high school, Mrs. Fadden worked the counter at the local Kresge 5 & 10 store. During World War II she was active with the local U.S.O. It was at a U.S.O. sponsored dance that she met her late husband while he was in the Navy stationed aboard the U.S.S Duluth before leaving for overseas duty.
After returning from overseas, they married in 1945, began their family and moved to Dorchester until establishing a home in West Roxbury. In 1955, they settled in Marblehead where they raised their family. Mrs. Fadden was a dedicated wife and loving mother who took great pride in her family and home. She was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church and had been active in the Star of the Sea Mother's Club.
She is survived by four children Joan C Ryan and her husband Martin of Rowley, Jack Fadden and Peter M. Fadden and his wife Deborah all of Marblehead and Maureen B. Cavanaugh and her husband Bill of Dover, NH; five grandchildren Katie, Colleen Ben, Becky, and Melissa; two great grandchildren Ryan and Erin and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Jones.
Her funeral will be held on Friday at 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Ave, Marblehead. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend . Visiting hours will be Friday morning, before her funeral, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor or North St) Salem. MA. Interment will be in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead.
