Carroll "Papa" "Red" "Sam" Lander age 76, husband of the late Sadie L. (Swindell) Lander died Sunday morning August 10, 2008.

Born in Salem the son of the late Carroll L. and Eva E. (Rose) Lander, he was educated in Salem schools. For many years he was a short order cook for several North Shore diners. He later worked in local auto body shops including Spencer Auto Body, Thomas Ford and Hartnett Auto Body. More recently he was a custodian for St. Paul's Church, Peabody and also worked in the maintenance department of Liberty Tree Mall, Danvers until becoming ill.

Mr. Lander enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren with whom he would frequently watch "Sponge Bob". He also enjoyed his many friends at St. Michael's Hall in Peabody.

He is survived by his daughter Louisa McClure and her husband Mark of Newfields, NH, with whom he has resided for the past five years; a brother Chet Lander and his wife Clara of Revere; two sisters Donna Lander of Alton, NH and Sally Lander of Salem; six grandchildren Susan, Ann Marie, Christine, Will, James and Dawn and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter and son in law Carol Ann Fontaine and her husband Michael.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North ST) Salem. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 4 to 8 P.M.. Interment will be in Hamilton Cemetery, Hamilton, MA.
