Obituary

Candide A. (Candy) O'Rourke (Laforge), beloved wife of the late John J. (Jack) O'Rourke, Jr., passed away at Harmony Homes By The Bay in Durham, NH surrounded by her loving family at the age of 83.

Born in St. Andre, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of the late Alfred and Bernadette Laforge, Candy moved to Lawrence, MA with her sister Velma in 1959 where they lived with their Uncle Wilfred (Joe) and Aunt Irene Marie Laforge. Shortly thereafter, Candy met and married her husband Jack with whom she shared 56 years of marriage. They resided in Salem, MA for the next 27 years. Candy worked for many years with New England Telephone until her retirement in 1988. During retirement, Candy and Jack divided their time between Ossipee, NH and North Fort Myers, FL.

Candy enjoyed card games (cribbage and 45), golfing, dancing, travelling and many trips back to Canada to visit family. She belonged for many years to Indian Mound Golf Club in Ossipee, NH and Pine Lakes Country Club in North Fort Myers, FL. Her greatest pleasure was spending time on Ossipee Lake with grandchildren, family, and friends.

She is survived by her children, Colleen and W. Brackett Tucker of Tewksbury, MA, and John J. O'Rourke III and Karen of Peabody, MA; six grandchildren, Lauren Tucker, Lindsay Cahill and her husband, Jonathan, Leanne  D'Agostino and her husband, Joseph, John J. (Jake) O'Rourke IV, Keri O'Rourke and Katie O'Rourke. She is also survived by her sisters Odette Mackie, Yolande Bourassa and Marise Laforge, and her brothers Roderick Laforge, Gilles Laforge and Yvon Laforge. She was predeceased by her sisters Velma Brightman and Norma Albert, and her brothers Hermel Laforge, Guy Laforge and Raymond Laforge. She is also survived by many brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews, and dear friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, June 6, 2022, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., Salem, MA 01970. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at 10 a.m. at St. James Church, 160 Federal St., Salem, MA 01970. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Davis Phinney Foundation.
