Bruce W. MacRae , 84
Salem—Bruce Whiting MacRae, beloved husband of the late Mary "Pat" (Gilbride) MacRae, died peacefully on January 14, 2017. Mr. MacRae was born in Lynn and was a 48 year resident of Salem. He was the son of the late William MacRae and Dorothy (Woodbury) MacRae of Lynn Ma. Following his graduation from Lynn English High School he attended Bentley College and Northeastern University. He was a veteran of the Korean War. When he met Pat it was love at first sight. He worked at General Electric as an accountant for 43 years. Along with raising their four boys, he was very active in Boy Scouts, Salem little league baseball, and Salem youth soccer. Upon his retirement he could always be found at one of his grandson's sporting events. He enjoyed listening to sports radio and watching the games on tv with his sons. Bruce and Pat traveled throughout the United States and Europe. He loved being near the ocean. His hobbies included working in the yard, camping, and spending time with his family.
Bruce was predeceased by his wife, Mary "Pat" MacRae with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. He was a loving and proud father to his four sons, Glenn G. MacRae and his wife Jacqueline of Stratham, NH; Stephen B. MacRae, his wife Robin and their children, Justin and Michael of Georgetown; Scott W. MacRae and his son Tyler of Salem; Bruce P. MacRae, his wife Lisa and their sons Ethan and Collin of Danvers.
Visiting hours for Mr. MacRae will take place on Friday January 20, 2017 from 4 to 8PM at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (corner of North St.) Salem, MA 01970. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Saturday January 21, 2017 at 10AM at St. James Church, 160 Federal St. Salem, MA 01970. Interment will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery, 226 North St. Salem, MA 01970. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bruce's memory to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
