Bronislawa "Betty" A. (Konopnicki) Varney, age 89, passed away peacefully, July 14, 2014 after a short illness.
Born in Salem, MA, the daughter of the late Michael and Michaelina (Drabyck) Konopnicki, she was raised along with 7 brothers and sisters on Gallows Hill in Salem, MA. She graduated from Salem High School, and Emerson School of Business.
She worked at Salem Gas and Electric Co. for several years, and went on to complete her long career with New England Telephone and Verizon Telephone. She spent many years as a supervisor and instructor, and loved all her time teaching and working with students and staff, retiring in 2000.
In her retirement years, she lived along with her son Fenton Jr., his wife Ivena, and her grandson Fenton III, at the family home in Melvin Village, NH.
She was a beloved mother and generous person with a giving heart, and a deep-rooted sense of faith. Her sense of humor was contagious and she will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Her favorite spots: Las Vegas, Foxwoods, and the weekly poker games will not be the same without her.
She is survived by her son Fenton Varney, Jr., his wife Ivena, and grandson Fenton III, of Melvin Village, NH, her sister Josephine Sironi of Peabody, MA, and an extended family of many nieces, grand-nieces, nephews, grand-nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her son Blake Michael Varney, and siblings, Ruth Pszenny White, Alice (Konopnicki) Gauthier, Stanley Konopnicki, Joseph Konopnicki, Bronislaw "Benny" Konopnicki, and John Konopnicki.
Her Funeral will be held on Tuesday July 22, 2014 from the Murphy Funeral Home at 85 Federal St. (corner of North St) Salem, to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St James Church, 156 Federal St. Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Monday July 21, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Murphy Funeral Home.
