Peabody….

Betsy C. (Swain) Croft age 89, wife of the late Phil Croft died in the North Shore Medical Center, Salem on Friday, January 1, 2010 following a brief illness.

A lifelong resident of Peabody, she was raised and educated in Peabody Schools, the daughter of the late George and Anna (Lummus) Swain. Mrs. Croft was graduated from Peabody High school in the Class of 1938. A member of Local 201 and the GE Quarter Century Club, she was employed by General Electric as a machine operator in the River Works plant for over 40 years until retiring in 1982.

Mrs. Croft had been a longtime member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Salem.

She is survived by a niece Christine Lauersdorf of Beverly and two great nieces Leslie Anna Lauersdorf of Tampa, FL and Sarah Tanzella of Hamilton.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Croft was predeceased by a brother E.R. Swain, a sister Letitia Maguire and a niece Leslie Ryan.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday January 6, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday in the Funeral Home from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
