Bernadette McHugh 83, wife of the late John S. "Jack" McHugh passed away peacefully on July 19, 2021, following a brief illness. Born March 4, 1938, to the late William R. and Esther L. Berube, nee Healey, Bernadette was raised and educated in Lynn. After graduating from Lynn Classical High School, she proceeded to nursing school, ultimately becoming an X-Ray technician. It was during her employment at Mary Alley Hospital that she met Jack McHugh, a young Marblehead Police Officer. Jack and Bernadette were married on February 22, 1960, and settled in Marblehead, Jack's hometown. Jack and Bernadette would enjoy 55 years of marriage until Jack's death in 2015. After his passing, Bernadette missed the steady hand, unwavering support and loving companionship Jack provided. Bernadette is also predeceased by her daughter, Jacqueline Anne McHugh and brother Laurent A. Berube. She is survived by a son Bill and his wife Amy of Marblehead and a grandson Jack of Austin, Texas. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 27 ^th at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Ave, Marblehead, at 10:30 AM. Interment will be private at the family's request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bernadette's honor to the Bridgewell Organization, 10 Dearborne Road, Peabody, MA 01960, where her daughter Jacqueline received excellent care for many years as a resident of the Bridgewell Community Housing program.
