Obituary

Barton A. Waldo, Jr., of Ipswich, formerly of Hamilton, age 76, died December 11, 2022 at the Lahey Medical Center in Burlington, MA following a courageous 18-year battle with Parkinson's disease.  Born on August 31, 1946, he was the son of the late Lois (Batchelder) and Barton A. Waldo, Sr.  Bart grew up in Lexington and Winthrop, MA and was a graduate of Riverside Military Academy (Gainseville, GA) and Lowell Technological Institute (now UMass Lowell).  Bart served proudly in the U.S. Navy from 1968 – 1974, spending time on the nuclear submarines U.S.S. Gato and U.S.S. Trepang, traveling around the world and surfacing at the North Pole.  Following his military service, Bart worked as a nuclear engineer at Stone and Webster and at Seabrook Station where he retired in 2009.

Bart was an avid outdoorsman and was happiest on the water where you could find him fishing, boating, hunting, or spending time with his family and friends.  Bart spent many days on the Essex River, Ipswich Bay, Manchester Harbor, Stellwagen Bank, and the backside of Crane Beach cranking his stereo as loud as it could go and chasing whatever fish were biting that day.  He was an active member and past president of the Maddie's Anglers Club in Marblehead and a member of Danvers Fish and Game Club, Ipswich Fish and Game Association, and the Dolphin Yacht Club.  Bart was also a former board member of the Manchester Sailing Association and congregant of Christ Church (Hamilton).  He was a supporter of the Wounded Warriors Project and greatly enjoyed participating in Project Neptune each summer taking wounded vets for a day of fishing.

Bart is survived by his wife Rosemary (Walsh) with whom he shared 53 years of marriage, his daughter Julie and her husband Skip Crocker of Essex, MA, daughter Libby and her husband Bill Snead of Seattle, WA, and three grandchildren: Ellie and Sam Crocker and Merrick Snead.  Bart was a proud husband, father, and grandfather and enjoyed nothing more than cheering on his grandchildren's accomplishments and sharing his love of the ocean with them.  In addition to his immediate family, Bart enjoyed spending time with countless friends and his extended family.  He will be especially missed by the beach crew and his fishing and hunting buddies.
