Barbara C. (King) Mulcahy, age 81, wife of the late Thomas Mulcahy, of Marblehead died at her home, early Wednesday morning following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, the daughter of the late Kenneth and Alma (Connors) King, she was raised and educated in Halifax. Her late grandfather, P.W. Connors had established a fishing company in Nova Scotia.
Following her graduation from the Queen Elizabeth High School, Mrs. Mulcahy received her Bachelor's of Art Degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax. She then continued her education at the Halifax Infirmary Medical Librarian School.
She then became employed in the Halifax School System for several years teaching fifth sixth and third grade. Later, Mrs. Mulcahy became employed by Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia until moving to the North Shore of Boston and becoming employed by Malden Hospital for seven years. During this time she also spent a year in Ann Arbor Michigan, furthering her studies at the University of Michigan and working part time.
She and her late husband had been very active members of the Boston Yacht Club in Marblehead. As they traveled the East Coast for many years aboard their boat, "Tara" they always looked forward to seeing their many friends and making new acquaintances.
Mrs. Mulcahy is survived by a niece Kathy Mulcahy-Gallagher and her children Ryan and Tara of Swampscott and a large extended family in California and Nova Scotia.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday August 25, 2012 at 11;00 AM IN Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 81 Atlantic Ave., Marblehead. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. At Mrs. Mulcahy's request there are no visiting hours. Interment will be in Nova Scotia.
