Salem……
Barbara Elaine (McClure) Penman, age 69, wife of the late Bruce Warren Penman, PhD, of Salem, died after a brief illness Monday evening, January 9, 2012, at North Shore Medical Center in Salem.
Born in Nashua, NH the daughter of the late Albert and Lucille (Grandmaison) McClure, she was raised and educated in Nashua. Following her high school graduation she attended the University of New Hampshire until marrying and moving to Marblehead.
A loving wife and mother she was dedicated to her family while also working at Essex Bank in Vinnin Square Swampscott and later in its Peabody branch for several years. Mrs. Penman then became employed by Harvard University Credit Union until her retirement.
Mrs. Penman has been involved in local organizations including the League of Women Voters and P.E.O. For many years she was also active with her daughters' activities in Girl Scouts as well as Camp Shore Lea. A well-traveled woman, she enjoyed international travel, visiting new countries and learning about their culture.
Mrs. Penman is survived by two children: Laurie Beaulieu and her husband Chris Mallett of Cleveland Heights, OH and Nicole Lang and her husband Daniel of Salem, ; a sister Rev. Bette McClure of Fairhaven; two grandchildren Jacob Andrews and Hannah Reavis; a sister-in-law Marsha Penman and her husband Hugo Corado of Salem, MA; a niece Jess Penman of CA and a nephew Roger Corado of Salem.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 10:30 AM in Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., ( Cor. of North St.) Salem, MA.. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the funeral home. Interment will be private. Please omit flowers.
