Barbara E Cahill passed away peacefully on January 28, 2016 at Port Healthcare Center in Newburyport, Massachusetts at the age of 88. She was born August 9, 1927 in a taxi cab in Lynn, Massachusetts, to Katherine and Maurice Goff.
A lifelong resident of the North Shore, Barbara graduated from Peabody High School in 1945 and was honored with the title of "Miss Peabody" for her beauty both inside and out. Aside from her lifelong fulfillment of raising seven children, Barbara endeavored to make the world a more beautiful place for all. She loved the toil of gardening, the splendor of flower arranging, the challenge of home decorating, with every task in her life brightened by singing while she worked. Barbara had a beautiful voice with a keen memory for words to countless songs that stayed with her even through her battles with Alzheimer's during her later years. She was a loving mother, a hard worker, a beautiful soul who will be greatly missed by the many lives she touched.
Barbara Cahill is survived by her seven children, Maureen Cahill of Beverly, Massachusetts; James Michael Cahill of Orlando, Florida; Cheryl Cahill of Orlando, Florida; Patricia Cahill Taft and her husband John of Newport, Rhode Island; Robert Cahill and his wife Michele of Gloucester, Massachusetts; Mark Cahill and his wife Elizabeth of Colchester, Connecticut; Kristin Cahill Umile and her husband James of Ipswich, Massachusetts; five grandchildren, Heather Rose Cahill, Nora Cahill, Atlee Alman and her husband Kyle, Marina Cahill, Marcus Cahill; two sisters-in-law, Ann Goff, Sandra Cahill; a niece, Keri Cahill; four nephews, Edward Goff, Daniel Cahill, James Cahill, Stephen Cahill. Barbara was predeceased by her former husband, James F Cahill Jr; her brother, Edward Goff; her brother, Maurice Goff; her nephew, Peter Goff; her brother-in-law, Robert E Cahill; her step-grandson, Jacob Taft.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, February 4 at 9:15a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal Street (corner of North Street), Salem, Massachusetts followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00a.m. at St Thomas the Apostle Church, 1 Margin Street, Peabody, Massachusetts. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, February 3 from 4p.m. to 8p.m. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Salem.
