Attorney Michael E O'Brien age 67 of Salem died Thursday September 12, 2013 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House Danvers. Born in Salem the son of the late Edward and Margaret (Ronaghan) O'Brien , he was educated in local schools, graduating from Salem High School in the Class of 1963. He then continued his education at Suffolk University Class of 1968 and received his JD from Suffolk Law School Class of 1970.

Mr. O'Brien then began a career spanning more than 42 years as an attorney in Salem. . He was also elected to serve on the City of Salem School Committee, as a City of Salem City Councilor as well as City Solicitor.

Mr. O'Brien is survived by his sister Maura O'Brien of Salem.

His funeral will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 9:15 AM from the Murphy Funeral Home 85 Federal St, Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. James Church, 156 Federal St, Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 P.M to 8 P.M. Interment will be in St Mary's Cemetery Salem.
