Arthur A. Cuneo, age 81, husband of June L. (Marchant) Cuneo of Salem, died in the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers on Friday evening. On September 13, he and his wife celebrated 43 years of marriage.
Born in Woburn the son of the late Arthur A and Kathleen (Nolan) Cuneo, Arthur was a child of Catholic Charities from about the age of 4, he was raised in many different foster homes in Salem. At the age of 12 he was place with Joseph and Annie Kelly of Gifford Court in Salem where he had the best foster parents, a loving home and family where he was treated as one of their own.
During World War II he served in the United States Army. Following his discharge remained active with the Army Reserve, the American Legion and the VFW, Veteran's of Foreign Wars for many years.
Mr. Cuneo was employed by Eastern Bank for many years until retiring as Vice President. Active in the Salem community, he was Past President and a Director for the Salem Chamber of Commerce, Past Chairman of Salem Heritage Days where he had served as Treasurer for 25 years. He was also the former Treasurer of the Massachusetts Heart Association and Chairman of Heart Fund Sunday in 1969, and a member of the Salem Rotary Club.
An active parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Mr. Cuneo had served the parish as a Eucharistic Minister as wells as serving as an acolyte for funerals for many years.
In addition to his wife Mr. Cuneo is survived by a daughter Loretta Rose and her husband Anthony Ruscio of Feeding Hills, MA; by a sister Gertrude Cuneo Carnacchio; two foster sisters from the Kelly family Ann Marie Kelly Gayton and Patricia Kelly Popp both of Salem; and a cousin Frank Cuneo of New Jersey;his grandchildren Anthony, Michael, and Gina Ruscio and his many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews including the children of his foster brothers and sisters who always referred to Arthur as Uncle with much love and affection.
He was predeceased by a brother Robert Gray
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral on Wednesday at 1P.M. in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St (cor of North St) Salem. Visitation will be immediately before the funeral from 11:00 A.M. to 1P.M. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
