Salem, MA – Antonio Picanço, age 74, of Salem passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday September 6, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Graciosa in the Azores, he learned baking and became one of the first bakers in Graciosa. He married his loving wife Alaide (Silva) in 1966 and decided to start a new life with his family in America in 1973. Once in the US, he worked for the leather factories in Peabody until his retirement. Antonio loved red wine, enjoyed fishing for Mackerel off of the pier at the Salem willows, and loved working and maintaining his vegetable garden.
He is survived by his wife Alaide Picanço as well as his son Mike Picanço and his wife Lori (Sherman), his daughter Maria Picanço and his daughter Melissa Paulino and her husband José. He is also survived by his 7 grandchildren Cassandra, Jeremy, Jordan, Gianna, Nicholas, Zachary and Jeremiah.
Visiting hours for Antonio will take place on Sunday September 11 from 4 to 8pm at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (Corner of North St.) Salem, MA 01970. His funeral will be held from the Murphy Funeral Home on Monday September 12, 2016 at 8:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 45 Walsh Avenue Peabody, MA 01960 at 9AM. Internment will take place immediately following the funeral at St. Mary's Cemetery, 226 North St. Salem, MA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
