Obituary

Anthony Canio Civiello, age 80, husband of Mary Lucille McIntire of Salem died in the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston following a long illness.

Born in Lynn the son of the late Canio and Teresa (Cancellara) Civiello, he was educated at the Highland Elementary School and was a graduated of the Lynn Vocational School, in the Class of 1949. Mr. Civiello joined the Army Reserve in 1949 and was placed on active duty in 1952 during the Korean War. Following his discharged in 1954, Mr. Civiello remained on reserve duty until receiving his permanent discharge in 1960.

For several years he was employed by Clover Cutting and Die Company in Lynn, until suffering a stroke in 1982. A member of the Knights of Columbus Valladolid Council 70 of Lynn, he was passionate about coaching sports and encouraging youth to be the best they could be. A dedicated Boston Sports fan, he had coached the Salem Little League Cougars and the Salem Midget Football Packers. Nothing was more important to him than spending time with his family. Later in life he and his wife had enjoyed traveling.

Mr. Civiello is survived by nine children, 23 grandchildren and one great grandchild; Thomas Civiello and his wife Rebecca of Perth Australia and children Lauren, Anthony, Ashleigh and Mark ; John Civiello and his wife JoAnne of Annandale, VA and children Lea, Michael and Joseph; Mary Brennan and her husband Paul of Lynn; Paul Civiello and his wife Nancy of Brentwood, NH and children Jillian and Kevin; Philip Civiello of Johnston, RI; James Civiello of Kensington, NH and children Andrew, Meghan, Thomas, Alyssa and the late Kaelin; Matthew Civiello and Michelle Stevens of Salem and children Erin, Ryan, Richard, Dana, Jamie and her daughter Caroline; Theresa Morgan and her husband Scott of Salem and children Sarah, Ella, and Keira; Kristin Bennett (predeceased by her husband John Bennett Sr) of Exeter, NH and son John, Jr.; one brother, Dominic Civiello of Lynn and one sister Camille Whitney of Danvers and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Frances Kotchian.

His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:30 AM from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in St Pius Fifth Church, 215 Maple St., Lynn, MA 01904. Relatives an friend are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Murphy Funeral Home. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
