Anthony J. Ciulla, age 84, beloved husband for 60 years of Josephine (Montemagno) Ciulla, of Danvers, formerly of Medford, died in Beverly Hospital on Sunday following a long illness.
Born in Boston the son of the late Samuel and Katherine (Deleo) Ciulla, he was raised and educated in Everett. Following his graduation from Everett High School, Mr. Ciulla became a commercial fisherman aboard the "Leonarda" in his family's fishing business which was established by his grandfather. After marrying his wife and beginning a family Mr. Ciulla and his brother in law established Flooring Associates a successful linoleum floor installation business in Somerville. They later sold the business and Mr. Ciulla continued working in the flooring industry until his retirement.
He and his wife then began to enjoy spending winters in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida for many years. He enjoyed playing poker, going to Foxwoods and playing games. An avid Red Sox fan, he enjoyed baseball and was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus in Everett. Known for his great sense of humor, he was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather and was always there for his family.
Mr. Ciulla was blessed to have his daughters which he refereed to as "My three girls", the late Katherine Massaro, and Rosemarie McGrath and Pamela Ciulla both of Salem; four grandchildren who called him "Grampa" Rosemarie, Harry, Robert and Jason and his three great grandchildren who called him "Grampy" Dylan, Aidan and Peyton; two brothers Charles and Thomas Ciulla; three sisters Josephine Bitto, Susan Defino and Nancy Gallante and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers Al and Gus Ciulla and three sisters Rosalie Donahue, Lillian Cunha and Nellie Manetta.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in St. James Church, 161 Federal St., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 P.M. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
