Salem…..
Annette M. (Dillon) Coughlin, of Salem, died peacefully and gracefully in her home on Thursday, April 21, just days away from her sixty-fourth birthday.
Born in Dublin, Ireland, on April 30, 1947, she was a frequent visitor to the United States before settling permanently in Massachusetts in 1971. She immediately became adored by her nieces and nephew with whom she resided before her marriage to the late John Coughlin in 1972. She would become a devoted mother of four children and a beloved grandmother of six grandchildren.
Annette enjoyed dancing and socializing in her teens and twenties. Later on she took up crocheting and reading. Despite her declining health, she remained the family chef and could always be found cooking up goodies for various family gatherings, or sliding treats to the many furry canine visitors to her home.
She will be missed deeply by her children: Erin Coughlin Tower and her husband, Chad, of Plainville; William Coughlin and his wife, Ana Lucia, of Allen, Texas; Sean Coughlin and his wife, Joanne, of Salem; and Brendan Coughlin, also of Salem. She was the loving grandmother of Ryan, Matthew, Sophie, Fionn, Katie, and Seamus. She was also the cherished sister of Marie Lambe, of Topsfield; Noeleen McDonnell and her husband Eamonn, of Ipswich; Seamus Dillon and his wife, Lucein, of Johannesburg, South Africa; John Dillon, of Athy, Kildare, Ireland; and Phyllis Donovan and her husband, Chris, of Tewksbury. She was also the beloved aunt of several nieces and nephews.
She had shared thirty-eight years of marriage with John E. Coughlin until his recent death in November 2010.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 10:00 AM from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in St. James Church, 161 Federal St., Salem.
